Origins of Kuixe
“We wanted to fill the void between the real Mexico, and the perception of Mexico.”
Generations pass, foreign friends come and go. Whilst we could, we would show our visitors as many magical places that time allowed. And still…There was always more, so much more to experience.
Yes, the tacos are great, unlike any you will find outside of Mexico. Although it may be difficult to believe, there are many things even better than tacos. Sure, Cabo and Cancun have beautiful beaches, but those places lack the feeling of Mexico and only represent 20 out of 11,100 km of Mexican coastline. We felt ashamed that Mexican culture, cuisine and its natural landscape were reduced to these misrepresentations.
While traveling, we also realized how little people knew about Mexico yet how eager they were to know more. There was hesitation because of language and cultural barriers and fear from poor representations of Mexico in the news.
As a response to all this, from this void, Kuixe was born.
The name Kuixe is derived from Cuishe, or Madre Cuishe, the name of a variety of agave cactus which produces a special variety of Mezcal - Mexico’s original distilled beverage. Different from the typical Espadín or Tobalá, the more common varieties of agave used to produce Mezcal, the Cuishe variety is exclusively wild (not cultivated) and produces a distinct type of Mezcal. That union of wilderness and culture is what we wanted to display within our project. We welcome you to discover your own Kuixe experience
